Environmental education: first steps for sustainability

This paper presents preliminary results of a mixed methods research, obtained from a sample of 98 Bachelor in Preeschool Education students from Centro Regional de Educación Normal Dr. Gonzalo Aguirre Beltrán, whose proenvironmental knowledge and practices were diagnosed. The purpose was to have data which allow generating proposals aimed to enrich the training of future teachers. With the help of a virtually applied questionnaire, it was found that most of the students stated that they were moderately and barely informed about the factors that originate environmental problems, recognized the importance of environmental education in their training and admitted that they have little information on the role of education on environmental issues. Based on the results, a second study was started to identify the social representations of the environment.
