Teachers’ professional identity. An approach to their development

Teaching is currently in a complex situation, which brings with its countless challenges and needs that contribute to the improvement of the pedagogical exercise and student learning. The objective of the study was to review the teacher’s professional identity formation process and the socio-cultural factors involved in it. In this sense, the training process of future teachers and the first years of work within the educational system are addressed, as key moments to strengthen teachers’ identity construction, promoting spaces for individual and collective reflection of teaching. It is essential that educational policies focus on improving the processes of development of the teacher’s professional identity as the necessary way to transform the teacher’s work and the national education sector.
