Evaluation of emotional memory after a Stroop test in college students with academic stress

Short-term memory is the first step of a mechanism from which individuals store and modulate information according to a certain emotional load when processing it. In this study, we evaluated whether stimuli with apparent emotional charge modulate the evocation of words in university students with different levels of stress. No differences were found between the high and low stress groups. However, more tan eighty percent of the words remembered correspond to those of the emotional Stroop test. In addition, the primacy and recency effect is presented for words of a neutral type and with an apparent emotional charge, implying the participation of short-term memory. The foregoing would indicate that the stimuli of the environment to which individuals are exposed in effect modulate, positively or negatively, their retention capacity.
