Abstract

This article is presented in the context of urban parks and green areas and their importance to big cities and their societies. It is emphasized their role in the improvement in the quality of life of people through scenarios of dialogue, environmental awareness and active participation, as well as their contribution to environmental education processes and those activities that promote sustainable development initiatives in the urban setting. A focal point of discussion is the analysis of the role that urban parks play in the integration of non-formal environmental education and the perception that children have of these public spaces. Also, there is a consideration for a number of proposals for the development of educational resources, which have a child-centered approach, and that can play an important element for space planning. The aim is to consider a type of urban experience for children where they can be part of public life and where they have a place considered for their development. Thus, is necessary to engage children by listening and meeting their demands so they can be integrated to the design of urban parks.
