Active learning: a strategic tool to improve the quality of the Mexican pre and postgraduate studies

Active learning is a new type of education strategy that has been profusely implemented in the instruction of scientific careers. Among the main differences between this type of education vs the traditional lecture approach is the implementation of psychological tools to enhance retention of facts and tools to generate knowledge, thus promoting learning and improving academic performance. This perspective presents a brief review of the objectives and history of active learning, of the psychological methods in which it is based. In addition, a reference guide it is included for the application of active learning tools at the undergradua te and postgraduate levels.
